Charlene Haynes
Charlene Haynes, a beacon of warmth and selflessness, passed away on Friday morning, Sept. 26, 2025, in Hugo, Okla. Born on April 27, 1938 in Fort Towson, Okla.
Raised in Fort Towson, Charlene moved to Dallas in 1954 to start a new chapter of her life with her beloved husband, Johnnie Haynes. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared interests until his passing in 2008. Charlene’s work ethic shone brightly during her 25 years as a Mail Order Clerk for Sears, where she was known for her friendly demeanor and thoughtful attention to detail. Upon her retirement in 1984, she returned to Hugo, where she channeled her passion for cooking and community into Charlene’s Cafe, a local gathering place she operated until 1996. As an active member of the First Assembly of God Church, she found joy in fellowship and service Charlene’s legacy lives on through her loving family. She is survived by her two sons: Michael Haynes of Heath, Texas, and Gary Dwayne Haynes of Ben Wheeler, Texas; her sister, Patricia Ruth Still of Dallas, Texas; four cherished grandchildren, and nine adored great-grandchildren. Charlene was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie Haynes; her brothers: Robert Still and Kenneth Still; her sisters: Mary Grubbs and Rava Lee Brunner; and her daughter-in-law, Rhonda Haynes.
Funeral services were held Monday, Sept. 29, 2025 at the First Assembly of God Church located South of Hugo on HWY 271, with burial following at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Hugo.
