Jesse Hill, Jr.
Jesse Hill, Jr., age 80 of Grant, Okla., passed away on Aug. 10, 2026. He was born on July 2, 1946 in Vivian, La., and lived a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and quiet strength. He was known by those who loved him as a handy, adventurous, and interesting man whose presence brought steadiness and warmth to those around him.
Jesse spent much of his life working as a truck driver and farmer, two callings that reflected his strong work ethic and deep connection to the land. He took pride in honest labor and in the skills he developed over the years. Whether he was behind the wheel, tending to the land, or helping with a task that needed to be done, he approached each responsibility with determination and care. His interests in landscaping and farming were more than pastimes. They were a reflection of the life he valued and the satisfaction he found in working with his hands.
A veteran, Jesse served his country in the Army. His service was an important part of his life, and it stood as a testament to his sense of duty and commitment. Those who knew him understood that his strength was not only physical, but also rooted in perseverance, loyalty, and a willingness to do what needed to be done for others. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents: Jesse Hill and Willie Mae Tillman; brothers: Ossie Hill, Robert Hill and Adolphus Calvin, Jr.; his three sisters: Ethel “Lou” Sanders, Margaret Pope and Jesse Mae Scott. He leaves behind his five children: Elizabeth Calvin, Jeffery Hill, Jesse Hill III, Jerry Hill and Arif Carey, who will forever remember their father with love and gratitude. He is also survived by his sisters: Betty Tillman, Jacqulian Robinson and Evelyn McDonald. In addition, he leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews who will cherish the memories, lessons, and love he shared with them.
Visitation and family hour will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, 2026 at the Mt. Olive Funeral Home Chapel in Hugo The family will host a gathering of remembrance to celebrate the life of Jesse from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026 at the Hill home in Grant. Services are under the direction of Mt. Olive Funeral Home.
