The Celebration of Life for Merion Earnest Morris, fondly known as “Bud,” was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020 in the Shoals Baptist Church in Hugo, Okla., with Bro. Dean Young officiating. Private family burial will be held at the Spencerville Cemetery. Bud went to be with his Lord on Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020, in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 78.

Merion Earnest Morris was born Jan. 13, 1942 to George F. and Clara Bell (Morehead) Morris, in Spencerville, Okla. He had lived in this area all of his life and was a dedicated member of the Shoals Baptist Church. Bud married Barbara Flanagan on Oct. 7, 1962 in Hugo. He served in the U.S. Army and always highly respected the Armed Forces. Bud was self-employed as a lock smith and worked various other jobs, including serving with the staff at the funeral home and Goodland Children’s Home (Academy) for many years. He liked to collect guns, knives and loved the outdoors. Bud will be forever remembered and deeply missed. He forged a strong and beautiful legacy of family, faith, and a Heavenly mission of love towards others.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dwayne Morris; three sisters: Thelma Doshier, Joe Gardener and Phyllis Parker.

Bud is survived by his devoted wife, Barbara of the home; son, Jeff Morris and wife, Candie of Owasso, Okla.; daughter, Connie Akin and husband, Frank of Hugo; sister, Janie Johnson and husband, Clyde of Rattan, Okla.; grandchildren: Jake Morris, Josh Morris, Madison Morris, Erin Morris, Carlie Morris, Jordon Morris, Daniel Akin and Adam Akin.

The family kindly requests that all memorial donations be made to the Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Wounded Warrior Project on the behalf of Bud.
