Graveside services for Steve Gene Lantroop were held Friday, Feb. 27, 2026 at Old Ringold Cemetery in Ringold, Okla. Steve passed away Feb. 20, 2026, at the age of 78.

Steve Gene Lantroop, son of William Thad Lantroop and Ludie Bell (Harrington) Lantroop, was born on Feb. 21, 1947 in Ringold, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Fred Lantroop, Thomas Lantroop, Jim Lantroop, Roy Lantroop and Walter Lantroop; sisters: Pearl, Eunice, Gene and Ruthie; a granddaughter.

Everyone who met Steve encountered a giant of a man and a giant of a personality. He greeted all with a smile and left with a handshake. His passion for life cannot be understated. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and countless more whose lives were touched by him.

Steve left Oklahoma at a young age for a life of great exploration. Although having little formal education, he was known for his intellect, ingenuity, and most especially his work ethic. His life of adventure took him throughout the USA, touching all 50 states, and then to many countries in the Americas and Europe. Few roads were untraveled by Steve and few rocks left unturned. In 2000, Steve ultimately settled his family to Lawrenceville, Ga., where he owned a successful business for many years before retiring.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Christie Jones; his two sons and daughters-in-law: Eugene Sak and wife and Duane Sak and wife; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of family and friends.

Services were under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
