As the countdown to Nov. 3 continues to close in, we are tempted to say that “there has never been a more intense time in American politics” during which so much was at stake.

Of course, that would be a shallow statement, because 2020 isn’t the first year our nation ever was evenly divided on the political frontier.

But divided we are, nonetheless.
