Senate committee looks for ways to increase state’s turkey population OKLAHOMA CITY – The Senate Tourism and Wildlife Committee heard from wildlife experts Monday about why Oklahoma has seen a significant decline it its turkey population. Sen. Blake “Cowboy” Stephens, R-Tahlequah, requested the study to find possible legislative solutions to increase their numbers.

Buffs come up short against Heavener

Hugo News Sports Hugo fell to Heavener, 36-27 Friday night in a game punctuated by big highs and frustrating lows. The Buffaloes’ loss to the Wolves was the kind of game that sticks with most football coaches, makes them replay specific moments over and over again despite the fact the outcome won’t change.

State Auditor is guest speaker at Hugo Rotary Club

HUGO — Oklahoma State Auditor and Inspector, Cindy Byrd, was a special guest speaker Tuesday at the Hugo Rotary Club’s weekly meeting. Byrd, a native of Southeast Oklahoma (Coalgate), told the club members she always enjoyed returing to her home and found it a good way to stay “grounded.” “I’m rural,” she told Rotarians, adding that she was the first woman elected to this position as well as the first State Auditor who had personally worked in the department’s trenches, performing all of the types of audits that are routinely done.
