Hugo’s Freshmen Buffalfoes got their first game action of the 2020 round-ball season Thursday against two big schools on their home court in Hugo. Hugo slammed the Durant Lions 65-9 and then found the sledding a bit more difficult against the Pittsburg County (McAlester) Buffaloes.

BOSWELL — The Boswell Scorpions and the Moyers Tigers split games Tuesday in Boswell with near identical but reciprocal scores. The Lady Tigers took a commanding early firstquarter lead against the Lady Scorpions, 20-10, and went on to post a 72-36 road game win.
GENE NESBIT STADIUM — After making history playing host in the State football playoffs for the second year in a row, the Hugo Buffaloes came out smokin’ in the first half against the Keys Cougars Friday in Hugo, taking a commanding early lead in the game, going up 20-0 in the first quarter alone.

HARTSHORNE — Sporting a number of new offensive twists, the Hugo Buffaloes took a 6-0 first-quarter lead against the Hartshorne Miners before exploding for four touchdowns in the second quarter, enroute to a whopping 42-12 District 2A-6 road victory Friday.
Known for his high-scoring offenses and witty comments during and after big basketball games, former OU basketball coach Billy Tubbs has passed away at the age of 85. Many remember him being hired on April Fool’s Day in 1980 and others will never forget the sports pundits calling his style of coaching “Billy Ball.” “My goals are to reach the Final Four and then the Final Two and then be the Final One,” Tubbs said the day he was hired.
