OMRF awarded $3.1 million to study diabetic heart disease

The National Institutes of Health has awarded an Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation scientist $3.1 million to investigate a possible cause of heart disease among people with diabetes. Chi Fung Lee, Ph.D., will use the five-year grant to better understand how obesity and diabetes contribute to cardiomyopathy, which is an abnormal weakening of the heart muscle.

NORMAN –– Researchers from the University of Oklahoma, in collaboration with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, are identifying areas that experience the most extreme heat in Oklahoma City as part of NOAA’s 2023 Urban Heat Island mapping campaign.
Melvin Turner grew this whopping 100-pound watermelon in the garden he and his father, Charles Turner, cultivate in Speer. Turner said this is the largest one he’s ever had.
