Body

The Rev. Morris F. Brock, a devoted pastor, loving family man, and faithful servant of God went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sept. 25, 2025. Morris was born on April 4, 1932 in Longview, Texas, to Frank and Mattie Pearl (Walker) Brock, who instilled in him the values of family, hard work, and faith. Growing up in a close-knit household with his younger sister, Barbara, Morris learned carpentry, plumbing and mechanical skills while helping maintain the family’s gardens, orchards and farm animals. He used the skills he learned at an early age to feed, clothe, and house his children. He also passed along his work ethic and skills to his kids.

At the age of 13, during a moment of personal reflection alone in his room, he experienced a profound spiritual awakening when he gave his heart and life to Jesus. In high school, Morris felt God’s call to pastoral ministry and was subsequently licensed and ordained by Texas Avenue Baptist Church in Longview. The ministry he was called to as a young man became his life-long calling.

Morris married Martha Evelyn Mary on Oct. 27, 1950 and they were married for 63 years until the Lord took Evelyn home on May 1, 2014. During their time together they raised seven children, all of whom married and started families of their own. His dedication to family mirrored the values his parents had instilled in him. He has missed Evelyn these past 11 years and we are sure he is grateful they are together again.

Morris graduated from Justin-Grove High School in 1949 and immediately pursued his education at East Texas Baptist College, where he earned his B.A. degree in 1954. He later continued his theological studies at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Morris maintained a relationship with what is now East Texas Baptist University all his life. On Oct. 17, 2014, Morris was presented with ETBU’s Golden Blazer award, given to those who show leadership, spiritual authority and God’s blessing. On the same date he was the recipient of the Golden Lightkeeper medallion, given to alumni who graduated over 50 years ago and continue to excel in their vocations, church and in community service. Morris and Evelyn started a scholarship at ETBU for students in the ministry and one of his greatest joys was hearing from the recipients of that scholarship.

Throughout his ministry spanning several decades, the Rev. Brock served seven congregations across Oklahoma, Missouri, Arkansas and Texas. His initial pastorates were in Durant, Okla., at Bushnell Baptist Church and Silo Baptist Church. He left Oklahoma, at God’s calling and went to Missouri where he held three pastorates at Emmanuel Baptist in Doniphan, First Baptist Church in Dixon and Temple Baptist Church in Sullivan. God then called him to Trinity Baptist Church, Blythe, Aka., where he also did services in the county jail, in nursing homes and had a radio ministry. His last full-time pastorate prior to retirement was at Grange Hall Baptist Church in Marshall, Texas.

Throughout his life, the Rev. Brock remained committed to his calling, believing that serving God’s people was what the Lord wanted him to do. After retiring, he continued interim work in Marshall and served as Chaplain for various organizations, companies, hospitals and nursing homes.

Morris is survived by his children: Alan and Brenda (Brock) Bunch of Palisade, Colo., Martha (Brock) Palovick of Nixa, Mo., David and Rebecca Brock of Dripping Springs, Texas, Kenneth and Rebecca (Brock) Shuman of Tomball, Texas, Paul and Charlotte Brock of Sawyer, Okla., Jeff and Sara (Brock) Moore of Rapid City, S.D., and Steve Brock of Red Rock, Texas; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Morris Brock’s legacy lives on through his seven children and their families, as well as the countless lives he touched through his ministry, radio broadcasts and community service. His quiet strength, dedication to scripture and unwavering faith will be remembered by all who knew him.

In honor of Morris’ life, charitable contributions may be made to the Morris and Evelyn Brock Scholarship Fund at East Texas Baptist University.
