Tommy Harber, lovingly known by friends and family as Tommy, passed away peacefully on Aug. 11, 2024, in Hugo, Okla. Born on Sept. 16, 1946 in Ada, Okla., Tommy’s 77 years of life were marked by devotion to his family, service to his country and an unwavering faith.

Tommy was a proud US Navy veteran who served his country with honor during the Vietnam War. After his military service, he returned home and embarked on a successful career as an adjustor with Farmers Union Insurance Company, where he dedicated 21 years before retiring. His commitment to community shone through his active involvement at Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday School director and teacher, touching many lives with his wisdom and compassion.

A man of many interests, Tommy found joy in the simplicity of outdoor activities. He was an avid golfer, a patient fisherman, a lover of camping in his trailer, and in his early years, a keen bird hunter. Tommy took particular pleasure in mowing and caring for his farm property, finding peace in the rhythms of nature.

Those who knew Tommy will remember him as a kind soul with a quick wit and a thoughtful nature. His laughter was infectious, and his ability to find humor in everyday situations brought light into the lives of those around him.

Tommy’s legacy is carried on by his adoring family. He was a devoted father to his two children: Jimmy and Tresa; a doting grandfather to Amber and Zac, and a cherished great-grandfather to Austin, Kolbi and Cruz. His role as a patriarch was filled with love, guidance and the occasional playful jest, leaving his family with a treasure trove of fond memories.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Dorothy Harber, who was his partner in every sense and with whom he shared a lifetime of cherished moments. Tommy was also preceded in death by his brother, Eddie Wayne Harber, and his sisters: Linda White and Veda Ellis, with whom he shared an unbreakable bond. Tommy’s educational pursuits culminated in a Bachelor’s Degree, which served as a foundation for his professional achievements and personal growth. His love for learning was a trait he passed on to his descendants, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams with determination.

The Harber family has lost its cornerstone, a man who was the epitome of strength, love and humor. Tommy’s absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. The lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the laughter he shared will never be forgotten.

As we say farewell to Tommy Harber, we do so with gratitude for the time we had with him and the assurance that his spirit lives on in the hearts of those he touched. He was a man who lived fully, loved deeply and left this world better than he found it. Tommy’s journey on earth has ended, but his story continues through the lives of those he inspired along the way.

A service to honor Tommy’s life is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2024 at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Mayfield and the Rev. Kyle Cummings officiating.

In respect to Tommy’s life and legacy, we honor a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His passing marks the end of an era, but his memory will endure as a beacon of the kindness, humor, and thoughtfulness he embodied. Rest in peace, Tommy Harber; your memory will forever be cherished.
