William Isaac Vandever

Funeral services for William Isaac Vandever were held at 2 p.m. Oct. 9, 2020 at Fort Towson Historic Site in Fort Towson, Okla. William passed away Oct. 4, 2020, at the age of 84.

William Isaac (Hoss) Vandever was born on Sept. 14, 1936 in Fort Towson, the son of Madison Alonzo Vandever and Lillie Mae (Dunn) Vandever. He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and five brothers.

William married Linda F. Key on July 2, 1959 in Fort Towson. He worked for Wells Lamont Glove Factory, Valliant Paper Mill, and as site agent at Fort Towson Historic Site for 34 years. He was the longest serving site manager to date.

William loved God and enjoyed visiting with people and sharing about his Lord and Savior. His family was everything to him next to the Lord. He loved spending time with them and would always be willing to share what he knew about hunting, rodeo, stock shows, basketball and baseball. He taught his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids how to swim, hunt and fish, but most importantly, he taught them how to love and respect others. He loved dancing with his wife and carried on the tradition by teaching his kids, grandkids and great-grandkids in the living room.

William was a member of the Fort Towson School Board for 11 years and was actively involved with the FFA Chapter. He was an ordained deacon and faithful member of First Baptist Church, Fort Towson.

William is survived by his wife, Linda (Key) Vandever; son, W. Brock Vandever and wife, Polly of Pinckneyville, Ill.; daughters: Pamela Denise Waugh and husband, William Jody of Tuskahoma, Okla., and Misty Dawn Mills of Cabot, Ark.; grandchildren: Dustin Palmer, Jody Waugh, Dawnya Hatcher, Wendy Waugh, Darrell Palmer, Legend Mills and soon to be grandson, Eric Vandever; great-grandchildren: Twine Palmer, Memree Hatcher, Shyla Hatcher, Calvin Palmer, Eldon Palmer, Breylnn Roberts, Slate Knight, Remington Knight, Preston Black, Bradley Simmons, Braxton Chumley, Brett Clay, Chase Parent and Brooklyn Simmons; great-great-grandson, Henry Parent; sister, Verna Mae Crow of Moore, Okla., along with many other family, friends and loved ones.

Interment followed the service at Fort Towson Cemetery with Bro. Dean Young, Brock Vandever and Dustin Palmer officiating, under the direction of Miller & Miller Funeral Home.
