Hugo News Sports When the Buffaloes walked off the field Friday night, it was the first time all season they’d headed toward the locker room with smiles on their faces. They had plenty of reasons to smile — they’d just beat Wilburton, 18-14 in a game that felt like everything and everyone was working against them.

Hugo News Sports HUGO — The Buffaloes walked away with a victory Monday night against Antlers in their first home game of the season. Hugo won, 20-6 thanks to a few explosive plays on offense and a strong defensive effort that held the Bearcats at bay.

With 1:19 seconds to go in the first quarter, Idabel led Hugo 7-0 in what had already been a physical battle between rivals. When Warriors’ quarterback Waylon Phillips dropped back to pass, all heads turned toward the Buffaloes’ sideline where an Idabel receiver was rushing toward the corner of the end zone in anticipation.

Buffalo Cheer Squad claims fourth place in State!

The Buffaloes earned well-deserved bragging rights after placing fourth at the 2023 Cheerleading State Championships in Tulsa over the weekend. Hugo scored a 240.8 overall, trailing only Newkirk, Bridge Creek and Harrah in the small co-ed division.

Hugo News Sports HUGO — The Buffaloes are coming off bye week, where they spent time refocusing and preparing for this week’s game against Idabel. Hugo started the season 0-3 with a few tough non-conference games, and they’re looking to turn the tide going into conference play.

Hugo News Sports The Hugo varsity cheerleaders are headed to State after placing second at Regionals over the weekend. The Buffaloes traveled to Chickasha on Saturday to compete in Regionals, where they scored a 266.8 overall, second to only Newkirk, who scored a 284.6.
