She was born to Fred W. and Juanita Ozell (Hutchins) Boone on Nov. 22, 1936 in Hugo, the only daughter among four brothers. Graduating from Hugo High School in 1955, Shirley went on to receive her training in Oklahoma City at Draughon’s Business College. After Jack Cooley returned from military service in Korea, they were joined in marriage on July 20, 1956 in Hugo, and chose to make their home and raise a family there.
