Soper students earn scholarships from Choctaw County Democratic Party

The Choctaw County Democratic party sponsored a scholarship during the 2025-2026 school year for essays on Eleanore Roosevelt and the 1948 United Nations Declaration of Human rights. They offered $500 to each Choctaw County High School for the best essay, and another $500 for the best essay across all four high schools.

Choctaw Nation opens second Judicial Center in McAlester

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) has opened its second Judicial Center in McAlester, OK to improve access to justice for residents in the reservation’s northern counties. The new facility will help reduce congestion at the Judicial Center in Durant and shorten travel for families involved in guardianship, divorce, and juvenile cases.

ODOT announces bid award for Lake Texoma Roosevelt Bridge

A Texas-based construction company, Zachry Construction Corporation is entering the Oklahoma market and was selected by ODOT to deliver the US-70 Roosevelt Bridge replacement project under a modified progressive design-build contract. This project will be delivered by Zachry Construction Corporation/Traylor Bros., Inc. (JV).

Property tax bills still undecided

With property taxes routinely getting hiked annually in all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties, more and more senior citizens are screaming about excessive tax levies. In response to those complaints, several bills have been introduced in the current 2026 Oklahoma legislative session to place a cap on property taxes assessed on seniors.

Paris Regional Health CEO Steve Hyde announces retirement

• Veteran healthcare leader to retire in June following a decade at the helm of local hospital Paris Regional Health announced that chief executive officer (CEO) Steve Hyde is retiring, effective June 3, 2026, following nearly a decade of service at the hospital and a more than 40year career in healthcare. Chief Operating Officer Chris Boukas will serve as interim CEO while a search is conducted for Hyde’s successor.
