The Choctaw Nation Health Services Authority (CNHSA) and Indian Health Services (IHS) have entered into a joint-venture partnership to build a new health clinic in Hugo. The clinic will be more than 100,000 square feet and is targeted for completion in about three years.

CHOCTAW COUNTY –– A Hugo man was killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday afternoon in Choctaw County, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. The collision occurred at approximately 4:52 p.m.

Jacob Eastwood, of Boswell, was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers committee. The scholarship is awarded to students who plan to pursue a degree in an agriculture-related field at an Oklahoma college or university and who desire to contribute to agriculture and rural Oklahoma.

The Fort Towson 4-H Forestry Judging junior and senior teams recently won top honors at the District Contest at Beavers Bend and the State Contest at Robbers Cave, north of Wilburton. The 4-H members had to take a test over general forestry knowledge, identify insects and disease, participate in compass and pacing, identify trees and tell how they are used in Oklahoma and measure saw logs.

The annual Juneteenth parade and celebration is set for June 20 in Hugo. Parade lineup will begin at 5 p.m. at Gene Nesbit Stadium and will begin at 6 p.m. All groups, businesses, families and individuals are welcome. The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will host a PACT Act event, a day of assistance for area veterans seeking VA services. The PACT Act is a law that expands VA health care for veterans exposed to toxic substances.
