Black power has arrived. For the first time in modern memory, both of America’s major political parties are making an all-out push for the votes of African Americans.

It’s too bad Oklahoma’s favorite son, Will Rogers isn’t still around to write about some of today’s political antics. He would have a field day.

Larry Orville Tyson, known to his grandkids and many, many other kids as “Pops,” from Soper, Okla., was 73 years old when he gained his wings and met Jesus after being injured in a ranching accident (doing what he loves) on Aug. 8, 2020. Known for his big smile, meaningful hugs and unconditional love, Larry was endeared by his family and many friends. He was a man of immense character, integrity, work ethic, patience and commitment to his family.

Funeral services for Shirley Ann Simpson will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020 at the Mt. Olive Funeral Home in Hugo, Okla. Following will be internment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Shirley Ann Simpson, age 87, passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, 2020.

Diana Lynn Parker-Butler, of Hugo, Okla., passed away Aug. 23, 2020, at the age of 68. She was born June 24, 1952 in Pasadena, Texas, the daughter of Donald Parker and Sarah “Willie” (Leake) Parker and had lived for the past 12 years in Hugo. Her parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald Parker, Jr.

Mattie Belle Leslie, a devoted family woman, passed from this life into eternity with the Lord on Aug. 14, 2020 in Hugo, Okla., at the age of 85.
