Contributing Writer SOPER — The ninth ranked Soper softball team defeated Bennington by scores of 13-0 and 14-0 to be crowned District champions again. The Lady Red Bears’ pitching and defense were exceptional.

Contributing Writer The Red Bears defeated New Lima by scores of 9-1 and 10-0. Soper also defeated Haileyville, 11-1. The three wins earned them their first District championship in years and continued their impressive turnaround under coach Seth Springfield.

Contributing Writer The Boswell Scorpions battled their Highway 70 rival Rock Creek last week, but were not able to hold on to an early game lead. The Scorpions allowed a run in the top of the first inning and then faced an uphill battle the rest of the way.

Contributing Writer Against Bennington last week, Boswell’s Lady Scorpions struggled on the mound but rocked at the plate. With the sun in their eyes, Boswell pitchers combined to walk 17 batters as Bennington coasted to a 26-12 victory.

The King girls, representing Rattan, had a good run this weekend at EYO and the NJSA Southwest Regional! It was worth the hot temps, the super busy schedule, the countless trips back and forth between the goat and pig barns, the early mornings, the late nights, and everything in between.

Contributing Writer With playoff games looming closer, Soper’s Lady Red Bears put a number of wins in the book last week including a big win over 19th-ranked Pittsburgh. Down 1-0 in the second, Alexis Hill got the fireworks started as she blasted a hit to right center field for a triple.

Contributing Writer The Hugo Lady Buffaloes have struggled the last couple years. This season brought more struggle. They hadn’t won a game and hadn’t even scored a run in several of them. They lost their prior six games by a combined score of 96-10.
